Hakka Is An Alien Language
客家是外星è¯
Hakka can be considered one of the fastest declining languages in Malaysia, while Mandarin will become the only Chinese language used by Chinese Malaysian. The research shows that people from remote rural areas say Mandarin is more useful than their own language because if they can speak Mandarin, it’s easier for them to find a job. This result more young parents are unwilling or happen to give up communicating with their children in the Hakka dialect. The intention of this project is to keep this Hakka dialect and culture to be ignited in the Chinese population, especially the young generation. To achieve this, digital tools can be beneficial for the young generations to understand dialect cultures and can change their perception of Chinese dialect. As animation videos are easily interpreted to help in supporting the young generations cultivate interest in the Hakka dialect and transfer the information through the video. It also explores how animation videos act as a medium to improve young generations' experiences and bring out the fun and diversity of culture.
The visual inspirations for the outcome is inspired by the aliens and nature paper cutting artworks. Characters play an important role in the video as visual interaction helps to draw the interest towards the young generations. Textured papers, colour pencils and crayons will be used as the material for designing the scene and characters to enhance the experience of watching.
IGTV is a modern form of entertainment for the young generation, which is also one of the reasons for me to promote the animation video on this platform.
