The Eaot is in work in progress and I am moving on to do some primary research and secondary research into the topic on quality time and the issues in it. I also manage to come up with a draft of the book.

Primary Research - Survey

After having known what topic I would focus on, I first did some primary research to understand how the public thinks of the term “quality time”. I listed some questions and made it into a survey for people to answer. Refer to the PDF below for the survey questions and the data collected.

With the help of primary research, I was able to understand more about how the public looked at the quality time. While most of their answers center around the context of good moments from the perspective of enjoying spending time, some answers given by some surveyee surprised me as some of them brought the same message regarding how quality time could bring an impact in the context of our life, which is what I would like to bring out in this project. Hence, this gave me a really good motivation to push further into this topic.

Secondary Research

After that I started with my secondary research to look into the details of the book. I made a mind map of the visualization of how the final outcome of the book would look like. Then I started with my secondary research to look into the content of the book.

Firstly, I research on what quality time is defined as through the perspective of people and how people from different age groups think about it. To my surprise, I was able to understand that quality time is a gift. But it serves other purposes as well.

Not only that but I was also able to understand more on how people define the quality time experience that they have been through which completely gave me a new understanding of the word itself. It also gave me the affirmation of doing this project in order for me to voice out my opinion and bring this unseen feeling in such an experience “topic” to the audience.

Quality time could be associated with a certain level of feeling, hence the area that it covers is way too wide and vast. Hence, I figured that I would focus on a few topics that have major relation with quality time and that are bringing different kinds of impact in different contexts that were unnoticeable or ignored by the public. Some criteria for choosing the topics were:

  1. Based on the senses of humans, as I think quality time is more than only what we could experience, it should be a holistic experience that is experienced by our life.

  2. The things or killing ideas that people don't see in quality time that must bring impact to their life.

  3. Inspired by my daily life, could be issues I noticed from my observation or daily life, so that as the one who is experiencing it, I would be able to bring out the realness of the experience and idea.

I listed out a few of the topics I had in mind with some questions and views I think those experiences could’ve brought in context of life:

1. Asking Question

  • How long have you forgotten to spend time on yourself?

  • Wonder if anyone realizes or notices the impact of quality time has brought to life or the environment.

2. The Problem

  • It is a very relevant info to me as I’ve seen how busy people lifestyle and completely changed the context of quality time from a normal feeling on spend time.

3. Love language - Quality Time

  • Inspired by Albaner C. Eugene Jr. about how people see the other side of quality time and experiences are discarded due to expectation.

  • Other than focusing on the feel of the quality time, what’s the expression? Are there situations/experiences that we don't know that are bringing impact in the context of life?

  • The perspective of quality time from 5 interviewees.

4. Font Psychology

  • How does font affect people? As a designer, I know that different fonts speak a different tone and mood, but is that all?

5. Image and Psyche

  • How does a photo tell a story that we’re also “reading” pictures very differently? Does it bring any kind of impact to us?

  • How do I use visual images to express their feelings and mood and interact socially with others?

  • Photography to illustrate important psychological issues concerning emotions, behavior, and human relationships.
