In Week 4, we had our another new project again which is "Photo Novels". For this project, photonovel is a medium which is comprised of photos and a storyline, in which the photographs are accompanied by texts. The important key points that we are learned in class:

1. Narrative technique

- methods used to communicate a narrative.

(how one tells a story matters more than what is told.)

  • Point of view

The perspective from which a story is told influences the reader’s understanding of it.

  • Narration

When analysing a piece of writing, ask yourself: "To whom the narrator is speaking?"

  • Speech

explores the narrator’s use of speech.

  • Tense

Narrators can also use verb tense to create a certain effect on the reader. While stories are rarely told in the future tense (with the exception of fortune telling)

2. Tropes

- Tropes is defined a figurative or metaphorical use of a word or expression.

3. Outsider

- an individual whose thoughts or behaviors don't conform to the norm. As a result, they may be disliked or rejected by a community and may even choose to isolate themselves.

Today class (14/05/2020) session, we were split into 5 groups and each had to read one article and create A4 size handout explaining the article and what we understanding from the article. My group (Group 4) and we got the "The Magazine Photo-Story: The Rise and Decline of a Genre" My group members are divided the questions so each person handle on one and creates the points. Currently, we are still doing the points and once that's done, we will combine all the points and start designing the hand out. Unfortunately, we can't sit together to do discussion and design due to the MCO period. The part I focused on was outline of the key idea from paragraph 1-6.

For my next action plan, I will take time to look deeper into the research into different self portrait photographers for inspiration and read more article about the differents types of photo novels. So, I can think of what I am going to do for the next and have a better understanding of it.

Thanks for the reading.
