Week 2 - 1000 words about someone, Eaot & The professional progress

1000 Words About Someone

I have an issue with the primary respondent because of no response. So, I decided to proceed with the backup plan due to time constraints.

And I'm glad that I've gotten Marissa Voo as the one I will write about in this project. Then I started to brainstorm on what I want to write for this 1000 words.

While thinking of what to ask her, I did some research on internet to see what is usually asked in an interview with designers.

After the briefing from Week 1 about the project Everything About One Thing, I started off by brainstorming on what kind of topic I'm interested in.

I listed out some of my interested topics and branched them out to ask question about the topic. Some topic that I'm really interested in finding out more would be food, photography, nature, time, water/watercolor and gold. The reasons behind is that dessert is because I'm very good in making dessert, and based on my experience, I think dessert is something that can make people feel happy after eating. However, I do question myself if there's more to just sweet dessert, and if I could use dessert to involve it in different kind of mood or situation to put a good purpose to the design. Through this project, I think there is much more to what I understand and I can further research and develop the topic beyond my comfort zone to find its killing idea.

Gold is something I have had an obsession long ago, I think gold have such different meaning and usage that it could represent time. I think times tells a story and could mean so much more than how people spend their time. Can time change people lifestyle? Can time to be quality? Can time be used in an unconventional way? These question got me excited in thinking about the quality of time could bring.

Other than materialized objects that could be touch and feel, I also think that exploration into design concepts are interesting also. The concepts that have I think myself have been taking granted for it is the time concept. I like the idea of gold which is the appreciation towards quality things, as I like golden and time. However, what is the golden hour? What do people do during golden hour? These are some of the questions that pop up when I'm thinking about this topic. I think exploration into familiar yet may not be in the case expands the unknown and exciting factor of the project,

Feedback

After showing my progress, I received some feedback from the lecturer. Firstly is to choose 1 or 2 topic and have a wide and general research on them. And since I sort of have come up with a few topic, the lecturer suggested to do more research on the topics. I'm also encouraged to structure the topic and list some questions and ask more questions, as this would help open up more possibility to find the killing idea. I should look for some relevant keywords to trigger the ideas.

My action plan would be start with the research and come up with a summary and show it next tutorial.

The Professional

This week, I created a mind map to better understand how I would like to promote myself as a designer.

As I am really attracted and pull towards branding myself as a graphic designer, I find the direction to use designs to tell story and mood it would make my Insta account as like a art space to show my value instead of just showing my skills.

Also, I made another mind map with a clearer thought in my mind on how I want to promote myself and design the Insta account.

Feedback

In this week, I manage to have the extra tutorial with the lecturer to show the professional progress and the ideas of my brand name. As I was not advised to use French language to do the translation of my brand name by google translate, it could translated the wrong meaning. I'm also encouraged to purpose more brand name idea to best fit me and my purpose. To first understand myself and my value before proceeding with brand ideation. He also suggested to try explore on "Brand Archetypes" and to discover on visual references to help with imagination of final output. And my next step would be think about the brand name and my value to promote myself.
