The brief

We were briefed on the assignments that we need to do for this semester, which includes, 1000 Words About Someone, Everything About One Thing (eaot) and The Professional. For the first project - 1000 words about someone, we would need to design and write 1000 words about them in the format of a editorial spread. And we would need to conduct an interview on that person to get to know what we want to focus in the article. We will also need to include some images into the article and reflect what has been interviewed in the content.

For the EAOT project, we were to look for a thing (could be tangible or intangible) and to explore and find a killing idea about it. We will need to be translated through images, typography, visuals and other elements that is necessary into a from of a book or a magazine. We will also need to be contextual and determine the target audiences for our book. And we were tasked to research in to relevant projects, magazines, publications, inspirations to start our project.

For this week, I'll start to work on 1000 words about someone and EAOT project first since the deadlines are near.

Progress: 1000 words about someone
  • A story about a person.

- Jas Designer as the one I will write about in this project.

- Jas is a graphic designer.

- Her design studio is located in Cheras.

  • What kind of design services is she doing now?

- Branding, digital design, social media design, motion graphic and product photography.

  • What makes you want to write about her in this project?

- I’ve been following her Instagram account and her portfolio website for nearly three years. Before Jas established her design studio, she worked at her small room and coffee shop to create her works all the time.

- She made herself a brand as a designer and set up her workspace at Cheras.

- Jas inspired me a lot. One of the things that she has inspired me on how to integrate self-interest in works.

- Her works contain the feelings, mood, and even attitude of the current creation.

- Jas has a lot of great projects, works and pretty images on her social media.

- She also said that to love your job you're doing it’s not easy, but to stick to what you like to do it's even harder. And why she insisted is because “design and photography” changed her visual angle and aesthetics in her life.

Reflection

For me this is a good project, no just that we can design but also get the chance to know more professional in design path and also to have fun while working on the project. This project would help us in terms of collecting the data and how we can transform our data into a presentable editorial spread. Just like what we learnt in the T&T subject on the data collection methods and also how we translate our creative thinking and the data into a information piece, so I think this project would give us a good chance to apply the techniques we have learnt.

Progress: EAOT

In this week's tutorial, I have shown my progress of EAOT as well. Also, I listed down 2 potential ideas which I have interest in and would like to research more in depth.

Idea 1: MeTime

“Me time” doesn’t have to be a whole day at the spa or at home. In fact, just a few minutes squeezed into the middle of the day works if that’s all you have. You can (and should!) find a little every day to relax and recharge, so whether it’s 10 minutes or a couple of hours, we’ve got a list of fun and fast ideas to help you make the most of the time you have all to yourself. But I found out most of the professionals do not have “MeTime” such a thing in life. Finding the time to succeed at personal, non-career based goals is hard enough, without adding the extra need for me-time. While the physiological benefits of de-stressing and relaxation are often explored and promoted, how practical is it to actually set aside time for a few moments or downtime? There is a few questions that I have struggled with as a young professional. What are the best ways to relax and de-stress for a busy professional? What do successful people do and how do they find the time to do it? And what is me-time anyway?

Idea 2: Golden (Magic) Hour

Golden Hour. Magic Hour. Whatever name you call it, the time of day is universally loved by photographers. Even if you are not a photographer, there is no denying the brilliance of this special window of the day. Natural light fascinated us because it can transform and infuse even the most impossible subjects and transformed into sublime works of art. As photographers or non-photographers we are natural lovers of light. Photography at its core is “light drawing”. And so it is no surprise that when the light is consistently beautiful, we get a little excited. So what does golden hour mean to you? What do you think? Let’s explore this together and see how it can add a little magic to our photographs.

Feedback

After showing my progress, I feel that my ideas and plans look incomplete. The lecturer suggested me to do some research on the topics. Also, I'm encouraged to structure the topic and list some questions, as this would helps me to find out the killing ideas. I should do some mind map and general research to have better understanding on the topic.

Reflection

For the Eaot project gave me a really good opportunity to explore new things I have yet to discover and explore. Through this project, I would able to gain some new perspective on how I look at the design, concepts, and also things in daily life. I also wish to find my myself as a designer in this project, to determine where I would want my practice to stand in the industry.

Thanks for the reading.
