This week (Week 6), I manage to come out with a mind map to better understanding myself before create my brand logo.

Initial Ideas for the logo design & concept

The main concept of my brand comes from the word “spark”. I am often referred to as someone who always has many spark ideas and is hard-working so I took that as the beginning step for my logo. I chose to keep my logo minimal so that it could be used diversely and so that it can be remembered easily. I chose “lim” simply because it’s the first name of my name. The hand-writing curve of the letter L represents the lines of a person on a design journey. Designer life is full of ups and downs. The trick is to enjoy the good process and to have the courage to go through the bad ones. The spark cutout on the top of the letter symbolizes the brightness in the word spark. My color scheme, my brand is made up of two colors. The maroon red symbolizes passion and confidence but also represents creativity. The contrast of caramel brown keeps everything friendly yet natural. However, a touch of yellow can be seen sparsely throughout my online portfolio as an accent color.

Throughout my branding, I used the Montserrat font family in regular, light, medium, semibold, and bold. However, I also use the font Backslash as a display font such as in titles. The Montserrat font family keeps everything professional as a simple sans serif font but by using Backslash I am able to bring in the youthful and elegant look to it.

CV & Cover Letter

My CV and cover letter both take up three columns in their layout. I chose to keep it minimal to go along with my logo. For my CV, I kept the more important sections: Education and experience at the top. You can also see the short greeting at the top of the pages in the Backslash font and the flower and spark both are taken from my logo concept.

CV, Cover Letter, Name Card Mock up

For my name card, I went for a rectangular shape. Two designs have my logo on it whereas the informational part has my name written in the main font and the greeting at the top of the name card in the display font. I also included the spark that can be seen in the middle of my logo.

Behance Portfolio

Behance has also been one of the platforms I have created since diploma time for me to look for inspiration and more importantly to promote my work. The works I have uploaded here are mostly my strongest works.

Linkedin Account

I have also created my LinkedIn account during my diploma and updated it recently.

Reflection:

It was exciting to prepare myself for next year’s internship, however during this preparation process, I was able to reflect on how far I have come on this path of design, and anticipating how far more I would go.
