The concept/ideas

In part 2, we are required to create an envisioned information piece. After the consult from last week, I tried to come up with the idea of the piece with the data I have on hand.

Idea 1:

I find the glass mounted frame to be an interesting display that can be set up for interactivity. Glass mounted frame in order to provide the most simple way to enable the visitors to check their tongues and face color by themselves to diagnose the potential illnesses. In this part, audience would experience one of the Chinese method is syndrome differentiation for organs, Zang Fu Bian Zheng in Chinese medical way, which is based on the relationship between physiological function, pathology and the organs in order to enable audience to know more about their potential liver illnesses. By self-checking the tongue and eyes, audiences are available to make use of the test result, in order to have a deeper knowing of their liver condition. For the second part, would be place a wooden medicine wardrobe which are put the Chinese medicine and label it the ingredients name, taste, and function. To help visitors to deal with the issues about liver healthy and get better understanding on how TCM work.

Through discussion during the tutorial, the idea of making glass mounted frame and wooden medicine wardrobe might not be so interesting have already been seen. Hence, the envisioned piece would not bring impact to the audience. The challenge was also to implement the data into the design. A few ideas and suggestion was given by the lecturer which is to zoom out other things and observe local shops and find out some interesting thing that I can work on it. Although I was having trouble to decide on how to implement the data into the design and also to tweak the idea of the information piece, I was assured to look for inspiration from other art installments and to not be so fixated on the idea first.

Idea 2:

After the consult last week, I've been brainstorming and research more on installation and also to come up with more new ideas and concept for this piece.

For the second idea, I wanted to create a real herbal tea making shop for the audience to experience the shop itself. The shop included a checking health session and the making herbal tea bags workshop. Besides, I will add a wooden ingredients box which can put six different types of Chinese herbs so that it will be easier to let the audience take the herb they needed to make the tea bags. Also, I wanted to add a box or a display frame to show my data collection but the design outcome might look a bit safe.

Some feedbacks given by lecturer which is the herbal tea idea is good but the concept and idea can be more detail. For the quiz, I wanted to do QR scan and link to a website to fill in the from but this idea seemed too common. The challenge for this idea is to think about the quiz format and what format I want to do and why. Also, advised me to think about the skills I want to show off.

Idea 3:

I came up with some ideas that was inspired during the sketching process. I find these ideas to have more content compared to those before. I've listed down the notes that I would want to communicate through my envisioned information piece.

I've shown my ideas to my lecturer to get some feedbacks. From there onward, we tried to sort out which ideas are much more manageable and more workable. Considering how I will be creating and also the likability of making it out, we've selected an idea from the note that seems to be interesting and workable.

We decided to go with the idea of creating a piece where viewer will be able to see it from different experiences. While discussing on what we can do with the idea, I was introduced to the herbal tea display store installation that could be added into this piece to make the overall outcome much more fun and looks interesting.

The whole idea would be to create a real herbal tea making shop that can let audience to experience the shop itself. It will also be interesting to include the display frame to the audience, so that allows the audience can take the recommended tea recipe from the box according to the health questionnaire results and at the side of the packaging have a data collection on how many audiences are taking the tea recipes.

The next steps will be to figure out what the working method for it. I will also need to plan the whole thing out and experiment with different kind of materials.
