Overall Concept:

The overall concept I am going for in the photonovel would be vulnerable and also explore how "vulnerability" people in the world. While looking at how the person in the story facing themselves and grow out from the "vulnerable" that in the different environment and the people around has given to it, it will also be interesting and in-depth to see deep inside of how a person feels inside while hiding all your "vulnerability" in life.

Initial Inspired Story:

The story I had in mind was about a guy hiding all the things in the heart with scars since experiences in the past living in vulnerability alone in life and also ways to escape himself. I would also like to incorporate some of the social issues and "self-care" standards the society has on him, to make the character struggle more and eventually grow out of it. It will all relate back to the bigger context on "Facing your own vulnerability, step out of the comfort zone".

The story is inspired mostly by the interviews I had with my friend where they also experienced this situation in life, living in vulnerable world and affected by different kind of experiences in the past. The vulnerability topic is also inspired by a friend of mine with this issues in life, however he overcomes it and facing his vulnerable side bravely in life or any matters.

Narrative techniques & Trope:

First-person narration - This technique presented from the point of view makes a story sounds more realistic and can resonate with the reader better, given that the topic that I'm bringing out in the story could be what people who read my story is going through also.

For the trope, I find Glass of Heart can be a suitable trope used in my story as it is the use of feelings or things that are symbolic. I think this method could trigger reader to think and engage in an imagination of what the character is going through.

Photographer/ Practitioner:

Wolfgang Tillmans - It is really interesting to see how Wolfgang Tillmans experiment with different techniques, how he transformed a traditional genre in something modern, how his works reflects his nature and surrounding well, and also portrays what he wants the audience to see and feel his photo. His photo gave me inspiration for how my photo novel would look like as I wanted my photo novel to be natural in the photos, and able to see and feel the ideas I have.

Larry Clark - He uses photography to tell stories and express himself. You can depict from his work that art can be anything and we can't limit ourselves in box (King ,2002.). When looking at all the case studies and analysis of his work, you can see how he was never afraid to be as authentic as he could. Not shying away from his past, he explored what can be considered taboo topics and showcased them in a different light, as real human beings doing real human being things, making it relatable to the person looking his artwork.

The Next Steps:

For the next steps, I have to do research more in depth into each of the parts related to photonovels, from the story line to the insight behind, the inspiration, the references and more. Also, find some interesting movies that could be used for references for my story. The next progress will be upload in the next blog post.
