In week 3 we learned about types of research framework and data representation through visuals. We also did some interview reading and group sharing activity with other classmates about the process of conducting an interview. In this week, we were ask to update our progress on methodology.

Methodology of data gathering & analysis.

  • What are the information can you find and how you will find it?

I will be focusing on the problem of herbal remedies in Malaysia due to the lack of understanding it. There are many information out there are available for me to do research especially comes to this field where I need to do more research on it to get the data. Information like an observation on how local herbs can help people when modern medicine doesn't work, how many plants are used in TCM, What are the "Five Taste" and "Five Elements", benefits, and treatments, how herbal remedies treat for diseases and what is TCM used for.

I will do observation based on the effectiveness of chinese herbal medicine, the ingredients used, and benefits. Furthermore, I can also conduct an interview with TCM Physician, senior citizens who taking TCM for long time and student and employed. Besides that, I will do secondary research on their differences between Traditional Medicine and Modern Medicine, survey and internet research on their information.

  • What systems and tools can you use to analyse the information, data and extract meaning?

I plan to use Google Survey this system on analysing and extracting the survey information. Also, I will also using face-to-face method to conduct observation and interviews on this topic. Recording will be done using phone camera to record the face-to-face interview. Field observation also will take place where I have to visit the TCM clinic and observe their herbal medicine products.

  • What things have you found so far?

Traditional Medicine is one of these remedies, which used for prevention and treatment for disease. Traditional Medicine are still existing and used by many people. In most developed countries, traditional medicines are often overlooked by consumers. There's so much more to share deeply, as the public may not understand or difficult for people make decision to try.

  • Which method of research are you going to use? (qualitative & quantitative)

Both are the method of research as it involves number of people to do my research. I think that it also involves their sharing and the experience of traditional medicine.

Detail research is still on progress. I felt the topic is very interesting to talk about especially in infographic. It can be a topic to let people knowing more about traditional medicine. It can also increase people's to understanding of benefits about traditional medicine.
