After completing the personal skills evaluation, we were also tasked to watch a video on “How to find and do work that we love (Ikigai)” by Chris Do and to write a reflection about what we learned from the video.
After watching the video, I also listed down the things that I love, things that I’m good at, what job do I think pays my bill, and also what the world needs.
What I love to do
I love creating, drawing, photography, exploring, learning, design, anything that has to do with a hand, camera, iPad, and laptop also skills that I am able to master applied in my design. I also love to share my story through images, text and also let my imagination run wild in my design. Other than these, I also love the process when I bring ideas to life, as it is the process that makes the whole final work enjoyable and satisfying.
What I am good at
I feel great and blessed as what I love to do is also what I am good at doing, other than skills I was able to master, I also have a good sense of visual angle and aesthetics which helps me a lot when I am creating my work.
What jobs do I think to pay the bills
I think all types of job can pay the bill but depends on your skills, experience and perhaps the project you are working on. The only difference would be if the job can sustain us and fulfill what we want in our life.
What the world needs
I think the world now is facing a lot of challenges out there and waiting to be overcome. As I think what the world needs are our human mindset to be transformed, to leave the negative ones and fill in with good mindsets so that are able to bring changes and transform the world into better.
Ikigai Venn Diagram

How close are you able to coverage these 4 elements based on your answer? How do you situate yourself in the Ikigai Venn diagram?
After filling in the Venn diagram, I see that I am at the Ikigai point. I would consider myself in between passion and profession. As I am not fully working and only taking freelancing jobs when I am able to. But I’m quite surprised that I am able to coverage these 4 aspects together, though it might not be in the optimal form, it gave me some sort of direction to move on.
Personal Skill Evaluation:
Excellent write up Crystal. You're very fortunate to have found something that you love to do that will pay the bill. As a professional creative, It is also important to have a range of other hobbies that is beyond creative design. It helps create an escape when your passion becomes too much of a job (which often does happen on the long run) Try to think about what other things that you can adopt as something you love. For example, gardening, or travelling.
