Independent Project Update: Research Findings

The objective of this interview is to get first-hand information and perceptions from interviewees towards the Hakka dialect from a different perspective. My target interviewees are local Hakkas, who have a fluent dialect and also come from a Hakka background. The communication will be carried out in Mandarin during the interview.

Interview Questions

Intro Background:

(will encourage the interviewee to use Hakka to introduce themselves first.)

• Place of birth 出生地点

General Questions:

1. 你的祖籍在哪里？

Where are you originally come from?

2. 你会说客家方言吗？

Do you speak the Hakka dialect?

3. 请问你平时在家或在哪里会说方言吗？

Do you speak dialect at home or where?

4. 你是怎么知道方言呢？是因为家人的背景吗？

How do you know the dialect? Is it because of your family background?

5. 你认为现在的年轻人使用客家话的频率高吗？

Do you think that young people nowadays use the Hakka dialect frequently?

6. 你认为客家话相比其他语言来的更有趣呢？（比如：单词/句子）

Do you think the Hakka language will be more interesting than other languages? (ex: words/sentences)

7. 你认为客家方言的有特色吗？比如：音调/词语

Do you think the Hakka dialect is unique? (ex: tone/word)

Opinion Questions:

1. 对你来说方言是什么？

How do you think of dialect?

2. 你会认同客家方言是最幽默的语言吗？你又怎么看呢？

Would you agree that the Hakka dialect is the most humorous language? What do you think?

3. 客家话（非正经）是外星语？这些你听懂了吗？

Does Hakka dialect sound alien to you? Do you understand these?

4. 那你知道方言文化在马来西亚快失传了吗？那么是谁让方言文化失传了？

Do you know that dialect culture is about to disappear in Malaysia? So who made the dialect culture disappear?

5. 你会想把这千年的客家方言传承下去吗？为什么？

Do you want to keep this thousand years of Hakka dialect to be passed on? Why?
