Competition Brief: Concept & Ideas

For my competition project, I have chosen to create a online podcast for entertainment as I have never created a website before. However, instead of designing something, I have decided to design a online podcast as this creates more challenges for me and will allow me to expand my skills.


Target Audience: Generation Y who were born between the early 1980s and the early 2000s that fall in between 25 and 35 years old.

Why Podcast:

  • To give voice to the intriguing kedai runcit stories of Malaysia through an online podcast. It serves as an opportunity to hear from the local kedai runcit owners, customers, eaters, to know about their experiences and stories and celebrate the culture of traditional provision shop in Malaysia to give it the representation it deserves.

The target audience of this project is primarily Generation Y who were born between the early 1980s and the late 1990s that fall between 25 and 35 years old. This group of the target audience is most likely tertiary education students or working adults and they are the largest audience of podcasts (Julia Götborg, 2019). Generation Y is the main factor to be the target for this study as this will help to recall their memories of the provision shop.


There will be 2 main "ingredients" in this project which are:

  1. Online Podcast (Website) - 2/3 episodes

  2. Photography/Illustration


I aiming to create a website which allows more interactivity among the target audience. Generation Y is the main factor to be the target for this project as this will help to recall their memories of the provision shops. Additionally, by having an online podcast allows millennials to know about their experiences and stories. I have decided to join the Communication Arts competition 2021, under visual interaction category which to design a website for the submission.
