I decided to join the Taiwan International Student Design Competition as it is an open brief competition focusing on product, visual and digital animation design. With my recent interest in visual communication design, I thought this was a good opportunity for me to improve my skills. Rojak culture being one of my topics to study, I decided to focus on that for this project.
Research:
You know recently I’ve been seeing a lot of comments about Malaysians who don’t know how to speak Bahasa Malaysia. Go back China lah, Go back India lah, if you can’t speak Bahasa Malaysia and you’re not Malaysian.

Mixing languages while casually conversing with friends is one of the features of being Malaysian. Hence, I took that as a prompt for my poster designs. I went to Instagram and put out an IG story - sticker question where I asked my followers what they consider “mixture”. It was important for me to ask other people to understand their perception of the mixture as everyone looks at things differently.
Question:
What is a mixture?
What are the mixtures used in everyday life?
Findings:
I received responses that ranged from something combined such as foods, drinks, skincare, colours, people, baking, language and smells. I took the information collected and attempted to translate that into a sketch. Originally my target audience was anyone but after suggestions and considerations, I opted to switch it to young people ages 17 to 21 who are students and working adults.
This process also conducted a survey with young people to gather more information about the target audience’s perception in mixed language. In total I have 29 responses as it reach my target number of responses. Click Here to view the survey.

Here is the responses results:
